Marathe and Steeply: the Entertainment
One of the false breasts (surely false: surely they would not go as far as the hormonal, Marathe thought) nearly touched the chins of Steeply when his looking down produced his double chins. […] His shrugging, with his hands on the prosthesis, appeared not at all Gallic.
Context
The serial's other body, first installment: Steeply's womanhood as a worn prosthesis — the word choice quietly pairing the two men on the outcropping, Marathe's chair and stumps opposite Steeply's strapped-on anatomy, bodies altered for the cause on both sides. (The disguise apparatus itself belongs to surveillance-disguise; kept for the prosthesis diction.)
