Context
The payload: Mario's definitional dental fact, in Hal's driest taxonomic voice. What's "up in the air" is nominally whether the late Mrs. Tavis was a true homodont — but if true homodonty runs through the Tavis line and Mario has it, the question underneath is Mario's paternity. (Carlisle presses exactly this as a dental-genetics case for C.T.; recorded, not adopted.) Either way it files Mario's deformity as heritable family material, not a one-off accident.
