Lenz tells Green how once he was at a Halloween party where a hydrocephalic woman wore a necklace made of dead gulls.
Context
One sentence, its own paragraph, dropped into the hydrolystic monologue: a deformed body remembered as party décor, on a par with her necklace. She returns a page later as "the woman with the lei of gull-heads" leading the Infant rite — deformity as spectacle, exactly the gaze U.H.I.D. exists to refuse.
