Context
Marathe's diagnosis of the love-for-one-person he's being sold is the theme's solipsism stated as doctrine: a devotion that "bends back in on the self" leaves you a citizen of nothing, alone in a temple where the only worshipper and the only god are you. The image is exact — kneeling to yourself — the sealed circuit of a self that has made its own sentiment the thing it serves, contact with anything larger foreclosed by the very intensity of the inward turn. (Which attachment to choose, and the choosing-your-master argument, stays entertainment-self's.)
