The deepest exchange in the scene crosses a question Mario never manages to get into words: his whole walk is spent trying and failing to articulate whether vanquishing the self is the same as destroying it, and Schtitt, over ice cream, answers the unspoken thing directly, "Maybe no different… except the chance to play." Attunement carries what language could not; the listener's presence lets the coach hear a question that was never asked and give it the book's whole wager in four words. This is communication succeeding without the message ever being transmitted.
