Context
JOI's own filmography as a ledger of his disease: Widower, the cocaine-addicted father immolating spiders on his Tucson property, and As of Yore, the intoxicated garage-monologue tennis-father — the drunk-father scene of 049 rendered by JOI himself as a film. The addicted, detoxing, and drinking fathers recur across the whole list (the alcoholic sandwich-bag salesman, the reduced-calorie-bourbon documentary, the alcoholic-delusional father of Valuable Coupon), the auteur filming his own inheritance again and again.
