Context
The disease named twice inside JOI's own disguised monologue to his son: the ten-year-old's flat inventory of a father who drinks Wild Turkey at 5 A.M. and pitches over during drills, and the father's own delirious catalog of his "cruel series of detoxifications" folded among the surgeries. The drinking is the concrete fact under the film-critic's costume; the detox-series is the revolving door the family will keep watching him through.
