Analysis-Paralysis; you can't think your way in

Gately's whole position, and the Program's actual answer to Day: not a refutation but a reframe — the slogans (Analysis-Paralysis, Surrender To Win, Give It Away To Keep It) all say the same thing, that the intellect is the wrong tool for this, that you can reason your way to an airtight case for walking out and the case will be airtight and you will die of it "back Out There." Gately can't out-argue Day and doesn't try; he offers instead the testimony of a man it worked on, and the plain fork — analyze until you find your exit, or stay and hang in — which is either anti-intellectual capitulation or hard-won wisdom depending on who's reading, and the scene refuses to say which.
