The Erdedy section carried its own title in the 1992 manuscript — "Three Protrusions."

This is a renaming: the same material survives, but names or labels changed between draft and print.

In the manuscript. "Three Protrusions" "becomes the title of the Erdedy section in the 1992 manuscript" — i.e. "the partial manuscript sent to the publisher in May 1992" (the state Pietsch bought the book on) carries the Erdedy material as a titled unit; the handwritten Erdedy draft already contains the insect imagery and its three "protrusions" den Dulk's genetic-criticism study

Further notes. With the conversationalist draft's "What are you exactly – unadorned autobio – automabiography" working title (diff-yg-opening notes) and the Wardine scene's "Las Meninas" (diff-wardine-year-las-meninas), this is the third documented case of the eventual novel existing as free-standing titled pieces — the early book was an assembly of named units, and print erased the seams (no section titles at all).
