Prorectors teach one marginal class and serve as on-court assistants to deLint, Schtitt's "Lebensgefährtin" (p. 1003); their status is low and their morale runs between embittered and accepting. To the more anxious students they are faintly repellent — a preview of the purgatorial fate awaiting the low-ranked player — and they keep to themselves with an air of arrested adolescence.
